THE CITY APARTMENT
This is a residential design project I undertook for my interior design study which details the interior design and scope of works for a two level apartment located in a heritage listed Brisbane City apartment. The brief required the aesthetic to exemplify a Contemporary Art Deco design style which would pay homage to the historical 1940’s Art Deco period building. The project required the design process to be followed and brought from initial site and brief analysis, all the way through to the final documentation package produced with CAD software for client presentation.
The apartments positioning and aspect resulted in very little natural light in the space, which required extensive indoor lighting solutions and catalysed the decision to implement a design with a lot of expanses of white finishes and furniture to improve the light quality. The champagne hue that is achieved through the wood-matte joinery softens the starkness of all of the white. Teal accents have been added to balance out the warmth in the overall colour scheme. Details of brushed brass and the selection of luxurious soft furnishings and designer feature lighting captures the opulent Contemporary Art Deco flavour.
I have incorporated a shower garden with a custom curved wall constructed with switch-glass, that has the option for transparent as well as the frosted option for privacy. The location of this indoor garden makes use of the natural light entering from the balcony area and is very much a unique feature of this apartment design.
